President’s Message
Dear Fellow Wolverines,
It is my pleasure to serve the greater Washington, DC area community of Michigan alumni as your President. UMDC is one of the largest clubs that exist for the alumni association outside of the Midwest; encompassing D.C. and the surrounding counties/cities in Maryland and Virginia. We have a great responsibility to not only foster “a spirit of loyalty and fraternity” among our alumni association members, but also to serve as ambassadors of the University in our nation’s capital and surrounding areas.
Our goal is to provide fulfilling event programming to our alumni in all capacities, whether it be career development and networking, community service, social, educational, or athletic. Consequently, we organize our club by committee, and each committee is charged with planning opportunities for our alumni to connect with other alumni and the University through these activities.
We are also motivated to promote and encourage attendance to the University through our student outreach programs for prospective students, and we have a strong alumni student recruitment program. We sponsor two important annual scholarships – one is our Samuel L. Chappell Family UMDC Scholarship, a $50,000 need-based scholarship, and the other, in association with AAUM, is a LEAD scholarship for $10,000. Because of this, many of our events have dual goals – to provide a fulfilling event while also raising money for our scholarship endowment.
Our club is run entirely by volunteers and its success relies on their hard work. I encourage you to get more involved to help make our club even greater. We are always on the lookout for enthusiastic alums who want to share their love for Michigan and one day become leaders of the club. You can learn about our volunteer opportunities by emailing us at [email protected].
UMDC Leadership appreciates your support and participation. Let’s make this year an even better one together. Go Blue!
