Sheila Schueller completed her MS and PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Michigan in 2002. Since 2014, she has taught in the graduate program at the School for Environment and Sustainability, primarily in Ecosystem Science and Management. At U-M, she has also served as an instructional consultant for the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) and as assistant director of the Ecosystem Management Initiative, where she provided training in project evaluation and adaptive management. She is currently involved in campus sustainability initiatives, including Bee Campus USA and Resilient Grounds.
Sheila is passionate about the beauty and biology of islands. Born in Jamaica, she has also made lifelong visits to her mother’s homeland on the Greek islands of Thassos and Crete. As an ecologist, she has studied island biodiversity, including the coevolution of plants and hummingbird pollinators on California’s Channel Islands, as well as ecotourism and conservation in the Cycladic islands of the Aegean Sea. She is excited to bring her knowledge of and enthusiasm for island biogeography to the trip, experience a windjammer firsthand, and participate in another high-quality U-M Alumni Travel experience after previously traveling to Peru.
