Future Alumni of Michigan Scholars Program

The Future Alumni of Michigan scholars program expands access and opportunity for admitted undergraduate students at U-M’s Ann Arbor campus by providing need-based, four-year renewable scholarships.

Campus is a more enriching place for all Wolverines when students from different backgrounds, experiences, and mindsets choose the University of Michigan to pursue their purpose. That’s why the Alumni Association established the Future Alumni of Michigan (FAM) scholars program — to expand access to a life-changing education and build bridges for exceptional students.

The FAM scholars program aims to support low-to-moderate-income admitted students — especially first-generation college students — at U-M by reducing financial barriers. In addition to receiving need-based, four-year renewable scholarships, students are welcomed into the FAM scholar community, which fosters a sense of belonging and future readiness by connecting them with peers and accomplished alumni who support their academic, professional, and personal development. Scholars have opportunities to network with U-M alums on campus, virtually, and in their local communities, with one required event per semester.

What Makes FAM Different From Other Scholarships?

Unmet Need

The Alumni Association provides scholarships to students after they have received their financial aid package from the University to help cover remaining costs not addressed by other forms of aid.

Flexibility

The FAM scholarship supports undergraduate students in any school or college. It is renewable each year, even if they change their major or transfer to another school or college at U-M’s Ann Arbor campus.

Community

It’s more than financial support — the FAM community experience provides scholars with access to alumni worldwide and fosters connections that enhance networking and future career opportunities.

University Impact

The University offers a variety of resources to support students financially; however, these are limited and do not meet the needs of all students. The Alumni Association can expand support for students with need and help U-M attract a broader range of students.

The Future Alumni of Michigan scholars program is administered by the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan, an independent 501(c)(3) organization separate from the University of Michigan, with Tax ID 23-7206591. The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan is committed to following anti-discrimination provisions and laws.
