Travel Insurance
While every effort is made to ensure that your vacation is a safe and happy one, unexpected events can occur. We strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance to allow you to enjoy your trip and immerse yourself in the experience.
A good travel insurance plan provides invaluable peace of mind and protection from these common travel events:
Trip cancellation or interruptions. Protect your investment in case you need to cancel or cut your trip short for any covered reason. Without insurance, you could be left with nonrefundable flights, hotel bookings, and tour costs. For everything else, we recommend an optional benefit in our enhanced plan, Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR). The CFAR waiver will pay 70% of your prepaid, nonrefundable trip payments/deposits if your trip is canceled for any reason not otherwise covered by the plan.
Accidents, illness, and other medical emergencies. Ideally, these kinds of events won’t interrupt your trip, but it’s important to be prepared in case they happen. Plus, your health insurance likely won’t work overseas, and many foreign medical facilities require cash payment upfront.
Flight delays and missed connections. Weather, technical issues, and other unforeseen delays can throw off your travel plans. With insurance, you may be eligible for compensation for accommodations, meals, and even rebooking fees if your flight is delayed or canceled.
Lost luggage. Traveling means putting your belongings in the hands of airlines and other transportation services. If your luggage is delayed or lost, travel insurance can cover the cost of purchasing essentials until your items are returned. It can also reimburse you for the value of lost belongings.
Alumni Travel Protect plans are designed to provide you with a comprehensive selection of benefits and services that will protect your vacation investment and meet the needs of every kind of trip and traveler.

The optional Cancellation for Any Reason (CFAR) upgrade benefit has strict eligibility requirements for purchasing and filing a claim for cancellation due to a reason not covered by the standard policy. Refer to the policy document for specific benefit and eligibility details based on your state of residence. Our preferred travel insurance partner has an article dedicated to this with details on these eligibility requirements.
This is a time-sensitive benefit. The sooner you purchase a trip protection plan, the more it can cover for this and other time-sensitive benefits. To be safe, we generally recommend purchasing coverage within 14 days of making any initial payment for your trip.
Travel protection plans can exclude coverage for losses related to pre-existing medical conditions unless certain eligibility requirements are met. Your protection plan can include a Pre-Existing Condition Waiver if the plan is purchased within the required timeframe after your initial trip deposit. If you are rebooking a trip, you can transfer your insurance policy to your new trip as long as it is within 18 months of the original trip. Contact the insurance provider directly to process the transfer.
The request must be submitted prior to your original travel dates, and you must verify that no claim has been filed for the original trip. This is a one-time change only.
