U-M Role

I was a writer and Lecturer of Creative Writing at U-M’s Residential College [RC] from 2008-2020, teaching narrative journalism, memoir writing, and creative non-fiction. I was the head of the RC’s First-Year Writing Program, and served as a Faculty Advisor. I currently work as a Standardized Patient at the UM School of Nursing, helping to train student nurses and nurse practitioners.

Trip Experience

My husband’s father was Finnish and for years we’ve wanted to go to Finland to understand more about the culture and people. I’ve seen the Northern Lights twice in my life, both times in Michigan, but to see them in Lapland would be a far more meaningful experience. We’re very interested in seeing the wilder areas of Lapland, and possibly getting a chance to see a Great Gray Owl and other birds of Finland. Also interested in trying snowshoes. And I have friends who claim Estonia is one of the best places in the world, so we’re excited to see that, as well.
