U-M Club of Charlotte: Board Leadership

The U-M Club of Charlotte is led by a volunteer board of directors and officers. Board meetings are held on a regular basis.

If you want to volunteer for the Board, on one of our Committees, or otherwise, or to just learn more about us, please email the club at [email protected]. Thanks and Go Blue!

U-M Club of Charlotte Board

Matt Nolan – President

Matt grew up in Muskegon, MI and is a first-generation Wolverine (B.A. Political Science & History ’03, Law ’06).  His first Michigan “involvement” was founding a Euchre League on campus as a freshman.  Matt was Student Body President at Michigan from 2001-02, and led the effort which resulted in Michigan’s first Fall Break in the fall of 2002.  While at Michigan Law, he was President of the Federalist Society chapter, Executive Editor of the Res Gestae, sang bass with the Headnotes a capella group, and was the commissioner of the Michigan Law Bowling League.  In his professional life Matt is an in-house corporate attorney for Honeywell, and he has served on the board of the Bay City, Shanghai and Chicago chapter boards prior to moving to Charlotte at the end of 2021.  Matt is also on the board of Carolina Crown and active with the Mint City Collective.

David Schmitz – Vice President

David grew up in the Detroit area and graduated from U-M with an Engineering degree in 1988. He was an Evans Scholar for his four years as a Michigan undergraduate. David has lived in Charlotte, NC, since 2004.  His wife, Debbie, is also a Michigan graduate and his son, Stephen, is of course a Michigan fan.  He has been actively involved with the Charlotte UM Club Board since 2022, and currently liaises with our UM Watch Party partner, Tremont, and serves as the Board’s Vice President.

Peter Baldwin – Treasurer

Peter is a native of East Grand Rapids, MI and a fifth-generation Wolverine (B.A. History ’95, MBA ’02). Before returning to Ann Arbor for his MBA, he spent five years supporting independent media development in Eastern Europe & the former Soviet Union. At the business school, he co-founded the Emerging Markets Club, served as opinions page editor of the Monroe Street Journal, and was elected to the Michigan Student Assembly, where he led efforts to persuade the business school to join in adopting Michigan’s first Fall Break. Peter currently serves as CFO of an investment firm specializing in marketing and advertising agencies. Since 2010, Peter has served on the board of the Baldwin Foundation, and he has served previously as treasurer for several volunteer organizations.  After prior post-MBA stops took him to New York, London, Los Angeles and back to Ann Arbor, Peter and his family moved to the Lake Norman area in 2020.

Josh Bostwick – Secretary

Josh grew up in the Traverse City area, and graduated from U-M in 2001. His fondest college memory is walking on the field with hundreds of other students when Michigan defeated that school below us in 1997. He also worked for Zingerman’s Deli. Josh has lived in Charlotte, NC, since 2007, and has enjoyed many community service projects with the Charlotte Club, including Habitat for Humanity, Charlotte Rescue Mission, Second Harvest, Promising Pages, and Beds For Kids.

Gwen Chalam – Board Member

Gwen has served on our Board for a number of years.

Annie Chen – Board Member

Annie has grown our social media presence and followers, especially on Instragram.  She also helped facilitate and host our admitted student brunch and student sendoff events.

Brandon Garzez – Board Member

Brandon graduated from the College of Engineering in 2021 with a BSE in Computer Science, and he is originally from the Pittsburgh, PA area. After graduating, Brandon moved to Charlotte in 2022 and has started his career as a software engineer at Wells Fargo. Outside of work, he enjoys cooking, playing chess, and consuming anything and everything related to Michigan Football. Brandon is best known for leading the singing of “The Victors” after Michigan touchdowns at the official game watch parties every fall Saturday (unless he is representing the Queen City on-location, that is!), and he loves to meet new alumni in the Charlotte area.

Chris Hudson – Board Member

Chris has been an instrumental leader, coordinating our first successful community service project post-Covid, at the Habitat For Humanity ReStore.

Ravi Mujumdar – Board Member

Ravi graduated in 2000 with a BBA from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.  Born and raised 25 minutes from Ann Arbor, Ravi has been a lifelong U-M fan and has been to the Rose Bowl seven times (but has only seen one Michigan victory in those seven trips… however nothing will ever compare to that 1998 game, when U-M won the National Championship!).  Ravi moved to Charlotte in 2007 and is an Analytics Manager in the Energy Efficiency group at Duke Energy.  He lives in South End and enjoys playing competitive tennis, traveling, and learning other languages.  He was a member of the U of Club of Dallas Board from 2002-2004, and has been involved with the U-M Club of Charlotte Board since 2009.
