Former Associate Director for Continuing Student Advising, LSA Student Academic Affairs

Fun fact

I’m an Army brat, which means my family traveled quite a bit while I was very young. As a consequence, my idea of home has always focused on people rather than place. I’m currently an assistant coach for a little league baseball team, comprised of very funny 8 year old boys. My chief duties are encouragement, putting on catcher’s equipment, and mucous patrol.

U-M Role

I was the Associate Director for Continuing Student Advising, in LSA Student Academic Affairs. I served in this role from 2009 – 2021. Prior to working in academic advising, I was a visiting assistant professor of Anthropology. I did research on political identity in Watampone, South Sulawesi, in Indonesia, and I also did research on adherence to HIV medications in Detroit, Michigan.

Trip Experience

While doing my dissertation research there, my wife Linda and I lived on Sulawesi for 18 months, with the older of our two sons, who was only two years old when we arrived. I’m very excited to return (as is my wife, Linda), not the least because the people of Indonesia have always seemed to be the among the most generous and gracious I’ve ever known.
