Archivist for Athletics

U-M Role

I help gather and provide access to materials related to the University of Michigan’s rich athletic history. I assist researchers, including the Athletic Department itself, with finding historic statistics, documents, and photos in our archives. I work with classes, authors, journalists, and documentarians, as well as interested fans and people doing nonformal research. Most archivists and librarians, myself included, are nonteaching faculty. My most committed research interest is formalizing the subfield of sports archiving and increasing collaboration among the limited number of university athletics archivists.

What Excites You About the Trip?

I haven’t explored the natural splendor of the American West nearly as much as I’d like, so I am excited to see landscapes very different from those we have in Michigan and to learn about its history. I’m sure if I dig a bit, I can also figure out if any Michigan teams have played games in the region.
