As the director of the U-M’s English Language Institute (ELI), I oversee programs providing English language instruction that enables international students and scholars at U-M to thrive in their academic programs and make the most of their time at Michigan. I am an applied linguist with research interests that include language program administration, international student support, and teaching with technology. I currently teach ELI 512 Spoken and Written Grammar for Academic Contexts, part of the ELI’s graduate English for Academic Purposes program.
Everything! I actually began my professional career teaching for three years at a Japanese university, and it would be a huge understatement to say that this experience was tranformative. I fell in love with the country, its culture, and its people, and I have maintained strong ties there since I returned to the U.S. So, I’m super excited to revisit some familiar places, explore some new ones, and share my experiences with U-M alums!
