I am an avid reader, especially of mysteries. I read a number of international mystery writers (e.g., Collin Cotterill, Donna Leon, Arnaldur Indridason, Jo Nesbo) as well as those in the US where place is as much a character as the people involved (e.g., Steve Hamilton, William Kent Kruger, Sara Paretsky, C. J. Box, J. A. Jance). I am also a long time quilter who is just beginning to move from traditional to modern quilting designs.
I am a Research Professor at the School of Information who has been at UM for over 30 years. I develop and study educational technology designed to support student learning and student success. I recently spent 3 years at the National Science Foundation as a Program Officer in the Division of Research on Learning (EDU/DRL). As the past president of two international academic societies I have been fortunate to have attended conferences and given talks all over the globe.
I have had a long love affair with France that began when I lived in Strasbourg during my junior year at Kalamazoo College. (Although I have often been told, “Alsace? C’est pas la France.”). My most recent experiences have been in Lyon which I return to whenever I can. I don’t read much non-fiction, I do recommend Bill Buford’s book Dirt: Adventures in Lyon as a Chef in Training, Father, and Sleuth Looking for the Secret of French Cooking. Take a look and you’ll be glad you read it before we get there. I am also excited to have a return visit to Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse. Pictures of the amazing food on display here adore one wall in my kitchen.
