As a recently retired dance faculty member, I taught courses in dance history, teaching methods, improvisation, and various dance techniques. Included in these were study abroad courses in Cuba and several courses in New Orleans. My interests are cultural dance practices of the African diaspora, the history of dance and music throughout the African diaspora, empathetic learning in pedagogy, and dance improvisation.
I’m excited to see coastal Spain, to see how music and dance have evolved in that region, given its proximity to Africa and the cross-fertilization that may have occurred, and to experience the region’s port wine culture.
