Fun fact

I am “retired” but I am finding effective ways to apply science to environmental stewardship and climate change policies through my work with not-for-profit policy organizations.

U-M Role

I retired as Director of the UM Biological Station and Professor in the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology in 2020 after 18 years of administration, research and teaching (both at the Biological Station in northern Michigan and on the Ann Arbor campus).

Trip Experience

I conducted research on arctic tundra ecosystems for over 20 years from 1984 through 2004, mostly in Alaska, but also in northern Norway and Sweden. I look forward to introducing our group of Alaska travelers to how soils, plants, animals, and climate interact to form and sustain the diversity of arctic ecosystems.
