In the 1990s, the South African Social grant system was expanded to include the entire population, making it one of the more comprehensive programs of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. In this article per The COnversation, Lindsay Kobayashi, an assistant professor in the department of epidemiology at the  University of Michigan, in collaboration with other researchers, noted the social grant’s positive impact on the population; in particular, the older generation.
