Detroit’s 16% Unemployment Rate Driven by Labor Force Rebounders

According to the latest survey from the University of Michigan’s Detroit Metro Area Communities Study, sixteen percent of Detroit residents in the labor force were unemployed as of March 2023. This 16% unemployment rate is higher than estimates by the federal government. Lydia Wileden, research associate for DMACS and author of the report, explores potential drivers of the higher unemployment rate in Detroit.
