As “Deprescribing” Medicines for Older Adults Catches On, Poll Shows Need for Patient-Provider Dialogue

“Deprescribing” medication is a movement that has many older adults thrilled to speak with their prescribers. In a recent poll conducted by the University of Michigan National Poll on Healthy Aging, 80% of adults between the ages of 50 and 80 would like to be taken off of one or more medications they have been taking for over a year. The success of the movement relies on safely stopping the medications prescribed. How many are willing to seek advice from their doctor before quitting a medication?
