The article discusses a study, led by Nora Becker, M.D., Ph.D., Michigan Medicine internal medicine physician and health care researcher, that found that patients who contracted COVID-19 faced significant financial burdens in relation to their medical care. This research is supported by data that was analyzed from over 1,700 patients who were hospitalized for COVID-19 and found that more than half of them had medical bills that exceeded $10,000, with an average bill of $22,000.
