LEAD Scholarship Fund
Beginning Spring 2021, our club will award a LEAD scholarship each year in an effort to support continued diversity at Michigan. Your expendable gift to the U-M Club of New York City LEAD Scholarship will help provide scholarships to African American students, accepted to the University of Michigan, through merit-scholarships. Scholarships are awarded to students that demonstrate leadership, excellence, achievement, and diversity. In addition to financial assistance, LEAD Scholars are also provided with inclusive programming that aims to foster community and empower scholars throughout college and beyond. James M. Gartenberg New York Alumni Club Scholarship
Through its support of the James M. Gartenberg New York Alumni Club Scholarship Fund, the U-M Club of New York is committed to helping outstanding high school students from the five boroughs of NYC enroll at the U-M. The number of scholarships awarded each year varies depending upon the amount of money currently available for distribution as well as the need that exists at any one time, however, our club currently awards $20,000 annually in total scholarships to first-year students from NYC who demonstrate high academic achievement and a financial need.

Background
Since 1968, the U-M Club of New York’s Scholarship Committee has selected NY Scholarship candidates from among incoming U-M freshmen from the five boroughs of NYC on the basis of both character and academic merit. Students receiving the Scholarship must demonstrate a financial need and have applied for financial aid.
The Scholarship was renamed to the James M. Gartenberg New York Alumni Club Scholarship in memory of our club’s former President, who was lost in the World Trade Center tragedy on September 11, 2001.

GIFTS IN HONOR OR MEMORIAM

You will also receive an acknowledgment, and the University of Michigan will send a receipt for tax purposes. When making gifts in honor or memory of someone, please include the contact information for the individual or family you are honoring. If you do not have this information, the Alumni Association will find the information and contact the appropriate relative.
