Students interested in a scholarship from the U-M Club of Hilton Head/Beaufort County may contact Bill Raisch at 843-671-2953 for more information.
The Club is working with its seven adopted area high schools and the University’s admissions department in an effort to interest qualified students in the University.
Recent scholarship recipients the club has supported are Catherine Zhu, Rohan Desai and Sara Wilson.
CATHERINE ZHU, June 2015 graduate
Catherine graduated from the University of Michigan Honors College in 2015. Following graduation, she worked as a medical scribe at the University of Michigan hospital to get clinical exposure while applying to medical school.
ROHAN DESAI, May 2017 graduate
I plan on going to medical school but I have decided to take a gap year. In this gap year, I have been hired as a post-baccalaureate fellow at The National Institutes of Health. At NIH, I will be working in a research lab conducting some independent research with a clinical focus. In the process of writing my honors thesis in biophysics here at Michigan I have discovered my love for scientific research and I want to integrate that into my career as a physician eventually. That is why I decided to take a year off to focus on research, basically. I will be applying to medical schools in the coming months and hopefully will start at one after the summer of 2018.
I would like to thank the Alumni Club for their support over the past 4 years! The opportunities I had were unparalleled and I would not have been able to attend without the financial support of the club, which is why I encourage continued donations to the scholarship fund so future prospective students can have the same chance that I have.
SARA WILSON, Governors School for Science and Math
The club supported Sara through her junior year, at which time she took time off to consider her future.
