LuAnne is originally from Gull Lake, Michigan. She graduated from the University of Michigan L.S.A.’s Residential College in 1977 with an Urban Studies major. Her time at Michigan was the perfect mix of academics, football and basketball games, political activism and forming social connections. She went on to receive her Masters of Public Administration from New York University, concentrating in Public Finance. She has consulted to numerous cities, states, universities, school districts and authorities on capital planning and debt issuance throughout the United States. Most recently she was Deputy Executive Officer for Finance at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, where she managed a $5 billion debt portfolio. After retiring in 2019, along with her husband Carl and their rescue chihuahua Tiki, she moved to an historic neighborhood in central Phoenix. She splits her time now between Phoenix and Cottonwood, outside of Sedona.

In addition to being an avid traveler (50 states, 47 countries and 6 continents so far), reader, concert goer and art student, LuAnne has been mentoring at risk youth for the last five years through New Pathways for Youth. She also has two wonderful adult children (an Archaeologist and a Global Music Specialist).

LuAnne’s Michigan Why
As a Michigan native, going to the University of Michigan was always my first choice. The education I received there was world-class, preparing me for both my career and my life long involvement in social and political causes. I love to spread the word about what a great institution it is. When I lived in New York and Los Angeles, the Alumni Clubs in those cities provided me with a community to meet others and take part in amazing activities from building the U of M’s Rose Bowl float to packing Christmas gift boxes for soldiers deployed overseas.

I was in Iceland in August 2026 and met a fellow Wolverine on our trip (wearing his Michigan hat and shirt) and we immediately bonded over our love of U of M. That life long love of Michigan and the ability to connect and form a community with others around the world is just part of why Michigan is so special to me.

I was previously Board Treasurer and missed being actively involved so I am now back as Board Secretary, looking forward to helping the Club in fostering a community and providing opportunities for mentorships, alumni connections and scholarships.
