Professor of Geology and Director of the Environmental Interpretive Center (EIC)

U-M Role

I am currently director of the Environmental Interpretive Center (EIC) at the University of Michigan-Dearborn and a professor of geology. I teach courses related to glaciology, rivers, and human-environment interactions. I have developed and led six study abroad trips to Iceland, as well as study abroad trips to other destinations (Norway, Cyprus, Montserrat, and Puerto Rico). My research interests are now focused more on water, particularly flooding, flood history, and flood risks.

What Excites You About the Trip?

I have been traveling to Iceland (and Faroe Islands) for more than 25 years to see the impressive geology, explore the culture, and interact with the locals. This trip, however, gives me a chance to see Iceland from a different perspective and to see some parts that I have never visited.
