The new year has begun, and media outlets are freely sharing tips, tricks, and insights on how to approach 2019. Resolutions no longer appear to be in vogue, and it has given way to intentions. I have seen words, phrases, or mantras that describe a path that one will take throughout the year. I like this idea. In fact, I have personally created one: Be Open to New Possibilities – and this includes travel.

I won’t miss this opportunity to share my ideas of the best places to travel in 2019, but it really is about visiting places that excite you, take you out of your comfort zone, help broaden your perspective about our world and its people, or just help you live out your fantasy. That’s the beauty of travel. The places to visit are many, as are the reasons to pick a place, pack your bags, and head out the door.

Here are a few places that might inspire your wanderlust:

Tanzania – This trip was a life-changer for me. Being out in the bush with big game is beyond words, as is seeing the lifestyle of native Tanzanians. You have to see this place for yourself. All our departures for 2019 are sold out, but stay tuned — we are repeating this trip in 2020.

Grand Danube Passage – Seeing a country by river provides a different perspective than a land program. This is an oldie but goodie in terms of travel, but visiting Prague and cruising into Budapest in the morning are two sights I won’t soon forget. It is awe-inspiring.

Island Life: Greece  It is said that if you want to experience the history and culture of Greece, do a land program. If you want to see the beauty of the islands, take a cruise. No matter which you choose, Greece has overcome its economic crises and is flourishing. Trip prices to this country are still relatively low.

Northern Lights After my second trip to Alaska, I got inspired to see the Northern Lights. This phenomenon is Mother Nature’s artwork at its finest. You’ll stay at a fly-in wilderness lodge and also experience the great North American caribou migration. Too good to miss.

Mediterranean Marvels – If you enjoy the amenities of ocean cruising, there is nothing better than cruising the Mediterranean. This trip sells out year after year. This is one trip I could do more than once. We have a June departure in 2019 and will repeat this trip in spring and fall 2020 — both great times to travel to this region.

This list can go on and on. Michigan Alumni Travel has over 80 trips in 2019 from which to choose — from domestic to international, to casual cruising to the rugged terrain of Alaska, to familiar destinations to more esoteric — an experience awaits.
