Surgery Patients Now Less Likely To Get Opioids – But Decline Has Slowed

According to a new study published by U-M researchers, the total amount of opioids dispensed to surgical patients in late 2022 was 66% lower compared with early 2016. An optimistic figure, but pain management and substance use experts are wary of a slowing rate of decline post-pandemic and are advocating for more individualized, “right size” prescription practices.
