Older Adults From Distressed Communities Attend Less Cardiac Rehab After Heart Procedures

Rehabilitation is a critical part of the post-procedure recovery process, however, a new Michigan Medicine-led study reports that only 26 percent of Medicare beneficiaries from distressed communities used cardiac rehab following their heart procedures. Michael Thompson, Ph.D., assistant professor of cardiac surgery, comments on the threat of socioeconomic barriers to patient’s ability to attend life-saving rehabilitation therapy.
