We have all likely felt lonely at one point in our lives, but could multiple periods of loneliness cause even more detrimental health effects? University of Michigan researchers set out to study whether cumulative loneliness could lead to more serious illness and higher mortality risk in mid to later life. Xuexin Yu, a doctoral student in epidemiology at U-M’s School of Public Health, explores her findings.
