Perceived democratic functioning is improving for the national government, but there is worry at the local level. Results from the Michigan Public Policy Survey conducted by the Ford School show that the percentage of local government leaders in Michigan who report high democratic functioning in their communities has dropped from 84 to 79 percent in 2023.
