Did you know the country’s first openly gay elected official served on the Ann Arbor City Council? In 1974, U-M senior Kathy Kozachenko won the Second Ward council seat by 52 votes and, for one two-year term, represented the campus and many student neighborhoods. Learn about Kathy Kozachenko’s story before a statue in her honor is unveiled at the 2024 Ann Arbor Bicentennial.
