Nearly 8 inches of rain fell within 24 hours, closing every major freeway and causing massive damage to homes and businesses in 2021 in Detroit. In this article from The Conversation, research conducted by Jacob Napieralski and accompanying grad students has identified a hidden contributor to flooding in older, low-income neighborhoods that have seen a lack of investment: ghost streams and wetlands.
