In Michigan, there are about four children under 12 for every available childcare spot. And even if there is a spot available for a child, the cost barrier of childcare further limits families’ access. The U-M Poverty Solutions team has been researching the undersized childcare workforce and the shortage of available childcare in Michigan to better understand the relationships between child care, income, and well-being, and underscore the needs of communities across the state.
