A Note from the Past President
Dear Bay Area Wolverines,
On behalf of the UM Alumni Club of Greater San Francisco’s board, I want to welcome you to our new website. Our club covers San Francisco, East Bay, San Mateo, and the North Bay regions. Along with the Alumni Club of Silicon Valley, we serve among the largest Michigan alumni populations (15,000+) in the world.
We are proud to announce that our club was chosen for the 2012 Award of Excellence in Business Matters and Leadership Development from the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan. This is our second acceptance of an award as we received the 2008 Award of Excellence in Membership, and it is a direct product of the support of all our active members, and the effort of a tremendous group of volunteers.
We have a great year planned for the upcoming academic year, including but not limited to career networking, community service, sports viewing, theater outings, and coordinated events with the Silicon Valley UM Alumni Club, the Ross Bay Area Alumni Club, and other Big Ten alumni clubs. We are also working with local alumni in entertainment for special performances, as well as local alumni business leaders for speaking engagements to add to our dynamic list of events.
In 2007, President Mary Sue Coleman challenged the Michigan alumni clubs to build a scholarship fund to support students in the local area. Our club responded and began awarding a small scholarship to the Leaders and the Best showing promise as a force for change in our assigned region. We continue our fundraising efforts by working with local businesses and support from our local alumni.
If you are interested in learning about club leadership opportunities, volunteering or organizing an event, or supporting our scholarship efforts, please explore our club website, subscribe yourself to our weekly newsletter, join our Facebook page. We recently created a Twitter account, so don’t forget to #gobluesf on your Michigan related tweets around SF. If you have any questions, concerns, or recommendations, feel free to contact me at [email protected].
Go Blue!
