2018-2019 Continuing Student Scholarship

The U-M Club of Miami – Fort Lauderdale is proud to announce recipients of the 2018-2019 Continuing Student Scholarship.

2018 – John Arias

John is a senior from Gulliver Prep and is excited to be majoring in Finance and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan. During a campus visit, he was especially impressed by the connectivity and support that exists amongst students, faculty, and alumni.

In John’s own words, “I believe Michigan will prepare me for success not only in my intended majors, but also give me the opportunity to hear different perspectives on topics, which will help me to better analyze subjects in the real world.”

He is an avid basketball player. He has season tickets and will be attending home games proudly wearing the maize and blue. Go Blue!

2018 – Kyle Liebler

Kyle is a senior at the College Academy of Broward County and will be majoring in Electrical Engineering at the University of Michigan. When visiting campus, he liked that students are encouraged to apply class theory to practical reality through collaborative projects in technology. He is also excited about the potential opportunity to study abroad through one of the University’s supported programs in order to learn new perspectives and build on his education.

Kyle is looking forward to the academic foundation that the University will offer him and, in his words, “wherever my career takes me, it is comforting to know that I will become part of a big family that supports each other in the quest to succeed. Go Blue!”

2018 – Cara Siegel

Cara is a senior at Cypress Bay High School and will be majoring in Communication Studies at the University of Michigan. The proud daughter of a Michigan Wolverine, she is excited to be attending the University, where she was impressed by the internship opportunities, study abroad programs, and advising services that are available. She hopes to someday pursue a career in public relations, advertising, or marketing and hopes to do learn further on the psychology behind the media from high caliber professors at the University. Go Blue!

2014-2015 Continuing Student Scholarship

The U-M Club of Miami – Fort Lauderdale is proud to announce that Carlos Barajas received the 2014-2015 Continuing Student Scholarship. His reaction when he found out about the award: “Thank you to the Miami/Fort Lauderdale Club for aiding me in completing my under-grad education and getting one step close to achieving my dreams!”

Carlos is majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Math and he is part of the Michigan Engineering Honors Program. As a freshman, he did research in the nano particle department, investigating nano particles on semi-conducting surfaces. Also, during his first two years of college, Carlos was part of the SAE Michigan Baja Race team where he redesigned the primary clutch of the race car’s gearless transmission. Last summer, he interned at GE Aviation in the Engine Dynamics Department and this year he will be doing research in bubble dynamics and the effects of cavitation. In his free time, Carlos likes to explore new places and to play basketball and pool with his friends.
