U-M Club of Houston: Welcome

Welcome to the U-M Club of Houston!

The U-M Club of Houston exists to foster communication among the University of Michigan, the 4,300+ Houston-area alumni, and other local supporters of the University. In order to create opportunities for alumni to meet each other and benefit from this incredibly rich and diversified group, the club hosts a variety of events, both virtual and in-person. These include cultural, recreational, and networking activities, and watch parties for Wolverine sports teams, as well as student recruitment and community service events.

Current programming information is posted on our club website’s home page under Upcoming Events, on our social media, and in our weekly email newsletter. We encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities to meet new friends, with love for U-M as a common denominator.

Here is a taste of what we have in store for you:

Programming –The club attempts to plan an overall program of activities that appeal to alumni of all ages, interests, and backgrounds. If you are interested in doing something with other alumni, whether it is playing Euchre or kickball, attending a Houston Symphony concert, taking your kids to the zoo, enjoying a networking session with other professionals in your career field, or something else entirely, let us know and we will try to make it happen!
Student Relations/Scholarships – You may be surprised to learn that during the 2021-2022 academic year, approximately 200 students from the Houston area attended classes as part of U-M undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs; as of August 2022, 30 local students matriculated as first-year undergraduates for the Fall 2022 semester. The club hosts two events each year to bring alumni together with outstanding local high school seniors and their families: the Admitted Student Reception in April, and the Student Send-Off in August. For more information about student-related activities, see our club website’s Scholarships and Upcoming Events tabs. In addition, alumni can participate in the Alumni Association’s Alumni Student Recruitment program.
Club Leadership – Are you interested in getting involved as a volunteer club leader? A great first step is to attend our club activities, introduce yourself to our club leaders, and offer your assistance at future events. Please email us at [email protected] to get more information.
Club Membership – If you are a U-M graduate but not part of the Alumni Association, please consider joining! As an AAUM member, you are automatically a member of the local Houston club, and AAUM members often enjoy reduced admission fees to club-organized ticketed events. Plus, you can take advantage of all the other benefits of AAUM membership, such as the Michigan Alumnus magazine, alumni career services, and other programs and services designed to keep you connected to the powerful Michigan network, with over 480,000 members worldwide! In addition, AAUM membership dues directly fund our U-M Club of Houston. So, please join today.

Our club is continually looking to expand its offerings, and we are interested in your suggestions. Contact us at [email protected] if you have any ideas that you believe would benefit our club, and therefore our Houston-area alumni overall. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to seeing you at future events!

Go Blue!
