Give to U-M Club of Grand Traverse Scholarships
Scholarship Committee Report, April 22 2019
Your Scholarship Committee solicited applications from (20) schools in (5) counties. UMGT applications were distributed through Traverse Bay Area ISD and to high schools directly by UMCGT committee members. Our committee members followed up with the high school administrators/counselors at each school. We gain improved contacts for each school, and raise UMCGT’s profile at all the schools. We also publish our application forms on the UMCGT website. We received (26) applications compared to (27) last year.
At our March board meeting, UMCGT voted to fund (9) scholarships, totaling $18,000. We have selected (12) candidates from (9) area schools. Subject to board approval, we will submit these (12) names for final “vetting” by UM Financial Aid Office. We should have results by mid-May, and will award our scholarships to the top (9) qualified candidates. This year we may be able to award (10) scholarships by splitting one $2000 scholarship in half since one student graduates in December, 2019. This would allow us to award a $1000 undergraduate scholarship, split among two semesters.
We hope that each high school will be able to add our UMCGT scholarship award to their student’s list of accomplishments at graduation time.

U-M Club of Grand Traverse Expendable Fund – 362476
Donations made to this fund are immediately available to be awarded as scholarship funds, having an instantaneous, however short-term impact. This expendable scholarship supports students in the Grand Traverse, MI area.
U-M Club of Grand Traverse Endowed fund – 796809
Donations made to this fund buy-in to the University endowment and provide a long-term scholarship impact. Only interest from this gift will be awarded annually. This endowed scholarship supports students in the Grand Traverse, MI area.
