Jarod Lew’s first solo exhibition, Strange You Never Knew, at the University of Michigan Museum of Art (Feb 1–June 15, 2025) presents photography and a new video installation inspired by a personal discovery about his mother’s connection to Vincent Chin, whose 1982 murder became a pivotal moment in the Asian American civil rights movement. Lew’s work explores themes of intergenerational loss, racial identity, and diasporic memory, using portraiture and constructed scenes to challenge ideas of race, history, and belonging.
This event is free and open to the public.
