Vice President of Marketing & Communications, University Musical Society

U-M Role

I’ve spent over 30 years working with the University Musical Society, starting when I was an undergraduate. I started in the School of Music as an oboe major, but switched to LSA, receiving a bachelor’s degree in English. After a three-year stint in California, which included an MBA at Stanford and working for San Francisco Opera, I came back to UMS in 1996 and have headed up marketing and communications ever since. I’ve been deeply involved in all facets of UMS and enjoy the mix of creative and analytical work that my role brings (studying audiences and audience behavior and those trends over time has been completely fascinating, especially given disruptions like social media and the pandemic, and how those have influenced behaviors). For seven years, I taught a course on marketing through the EXCEL program at the School of Music.

Trip Experience

I studied Italian for a few years while at U-M and love every chance I get to speak the beautiful language. As a long-time classical music and opera fan, being in the midst of Italy’s incredible cultural scene, whether visual of performing, is always inspiring — and the wines and food there are always beyond expectations.
