After analyzing the surgical outcomes of Medicare beneficiaries who underwent rectal cancer surgery in hospitals across the U.S., U-M researchers found that patients treated at hospitals accredited by the  National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) experienced lower rates of in-hospital mortality compared to those treated at non-accredited hospitals. Despite the benefits, only 3.3% (65 out of 1,985) of included hospitals are NAPRC accredited.
