Political instability in Africa is an issue of growing global concern. Labeled the “coup belt” by policymakers, seven countries in sub-Saharan Africa have experienced coups in the last three years, with two countries, Burkina Faso and Mali, experiencing multiple. Ambassador Susan D. Page, Weiser Diplomacy Center director and former U.S. ambassador to South Sudan, and Kamissa Camara, Ford School professor and former foreign minister of the Mali government, comment on the state of affairs in the region in a Q&A for State & Hill magazine.
