Hospitals go to great lengths to mitigate bacteria spread and risk of infection for patients, but is it really in their control? Clostridioides difficile, or C. diff, is the culprit of almost half a million infections in hospitals across the country, and researchers find that the transmission of C. diff may be more aligned with the characteristics of the patients themselves. Evan Snitkin, Ph.D., and Vincent Young, M.D., Ph.D., both members of the Departments of Microbiology, explain the results of their study.
