What happens when a star gets a bit too close to a black hole? A University of Michigan astronomer has made a thorough forensic study of a star that was torn apart and then had its insides tossed out into space after getting near a giant black hole. Jon Miller, U-M professor of astronomy who led the study, noted that the elemental remains of the destroyed star can serve as clues to follow to figure out what the star used to be.
