Where in the World Is Blue? – Fall 2022

U-M alumni share their travel photos.

As you start to travel again, whether around the world or around the block, show us your Michigan pride! Don your Maize and Blue or Block M and snap a photo. Then email it to [email protected] or share it on social media with #WhereInTheWorldIsBlue. Include the graduate years for all alumni appearing in the photo and a description of the location. Due to the high volume of submissions, we cannot guarantee your photo will appear in the magazine; however, all submitted photos appear on the Michigan Alum website. We publish only those photos submitted by Alumni Association members. By submitting your photo, you agree that the Alumni Association may also use it in its marketing and communication materials.

Hailing from New Haven, Conn., the 10-year-old daughter of Mark Beitel, ’94, couldn’t help but bounce with joy while wearing her Block M t-shirt she got during a trip to Ann Arbor.

On May 14, newlyweds Jessica Peterson, ’14 (front row, fourth from the right) and John Collins, ’15 (bent down in front of Jessica) celebrated with other alums at Shutters at the Beach in Santa Monica, Calif. Jessica and John met as sophomores at U-M.

Janice (Ross) Law, ’63, and Dick Ostling, ’62, reunited in historic Ocean City, N.J. After an acclaimed journalism career, Law became a Texas state court judge and a prize-winning author. Retired, she now sits occasionally as a visiting judge. She is the founder of 13-year-old nonprofit www.americanwomenwritersnationalmuseum.org. Ostling worked for decades at TIME and later at the Associated Press' New York office. Both alums were "on the road" journalism colleagues in the turbulent 1960s, covering national and international events.

Levine RBrian Levine, ’96, and his future Wolverine son showed love for U-M during a trip to Paris.

Susan Underberg Persin, ’87, met fellow alum Ben Srivastava, ’08, while visiting giant tortoises in the Galapagos isles in June.

Kenneth Prochnau, ’93, proudly flew the Maize and Blue in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris in April 2022.

Thomas Hitchman, ’82, MBA’84 (left), and his husband, Keith Hewitt, traveled to Antarctica on the maiden voyage of the Viking Octantis expedition ship in February. The two took the opportunity to fly the Maize and Blue on Cuverville Island.
