Diabetes is currently the most expensive chronic disease in the nation, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. According to a Michigan Medicine study, people with diabetes, particularly those with type 1 diabetes, endure substantial out-of-pocket expenses compared to people without diabetes. The total cost of diabetes in 2022 was over $400 billion, accounting for one of every four healthcare dollars spent in the U.S.
