“Finally getting to experience campus life, tailgating with my roommates, Alyssa(center), and Suzie(right)” GO BLUE!
January 2022
For those of you who don’t know, my name is Alliyiah Torrey and I am a Sophomore in the College of Engineering. This year we have been able to participate in a lot more activities than last year. To start, all of my classes were in person this year which was amazing. Plus, the college allowed us to participate in all the Welcome Week events, so I went to convocation for the first time. Not only that, but I also went to events at the Museum of Natural History and UMMA.
I went to my first U of M game as a student this year. It was a lot of fun and the Big House was full of excitement! The band is amazing and always has so much energy. I finally learned all the cheers and got to sing the fight song with everyone.
The Sophomore class was also invited to see the Freshman concert. Glass Animals was the band preforming this year. You guys might recognize their hit song “Heat Waves”. The performance was awesome!
Overall, this was an amazing semester to come back to after COVID. There were a lot of experiences that I missed my freshman year that I didn’t even know I missed out on.
Stay safe and Go Blue!
The following update was written by Eileen Kline, mother of 2020 M student, Max Kline.

I am not sure if you remember coming over to our house in 2020 to give Max his U of M scholarship and U of M gifts. We really appreciated you doing this for Max and still making it special. I wanted to update you on Max and share with you what he is up to.
Max’s biggest memory at U of M thus far is definitely the Michigan Marching Band. He took the marching band class last year and got to know a lot of the kids in the marching band’s horn section. This year he lives in a house with six other band members and loves it. Last weekend at the Indiana game, he was chosen to march in the pregame and halftime show. Once you make it into the Michigan Marching Band, you still have to try out for every half time and pre-game show. He is super excited because he also made it into the Ohio State pregame and halftime shows. He also made it into the travel band and went to MSU to perform in the combined halftime show with the MSU marching band which was amazing to see.
Max is a sophomore this year and is majoring in electrical engineering. He came home for the winter semester last year and did his online classes from home. He is so happy to be back in Ann Arbor. Max enjoys the challenge of the classes and loves the engineering program. Max is working part-time at University Lutheran Church with the youth.
