Descriptions of Officer & Committee Chair Positions

Officers

• President – Oversees all aspects of the Club. Holds and presides over regular Club meetings. Ensures the completion of the Club’s annual report and its submittal to the Alumni Association. Serves as the principal liaison with the Alumni Association and other organizations
• Vice President – Presides over Club meetings in the absence of the President. Assumes the duties of the President on an interim basis if the President is unable to complete his/her term. Serves as a resources for Club committee chairpersons
• Treasurer – In charge of all fiscal matters for the Club. Maintains correct and complete Club financial records. Presents a Treasurer’s report to the Club at regular meetings and to the Alumni Association at the end of the fiscal year. Assists in the preparation of budgets for Club events
• Clerk (Secretary) – Maintains minutes of Club meetings, takes attendance, and distributes the minutes. Files paperwork for the Club with the State of Massachusetts

Committee Chairs

• Programming – Plans and coordinates Club events that align with the Alumni Association values, including marketing and sales for the events
• Scholarship & Fundraising – Focus is raising money for the Club’s scholarship fund. Oversees the process of selecting scholarship recipient(s) and awarding the winner(s). Collaborates with the U-M Office of Financial Aid in this process
• Career Networking & Lifelong Learning – Organizes professional networking events, guest lectures, cultural events, etc.
• Community Service – Organizes community service events throughout the greater Boston area
• Communications & Website Administrator – Responsible for maintaining the Club website. Drafts and sends email listserv messages on a regular basis to Club members
• Sports Programming – Plans game watches for televised U-M sporting events. For football game watches, identifies a venue to consistently hold game watches and works to generate a contract between the venue and Club. Organizes Club events for members to attend U-M sporting events played in the Greater Boston area. Organizes “intramural” sports teams throughout the year
• Social Media – Responsible for maintaining Club social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn
• Membership & Recruiting – Responsible for recruitment of alumni to become more active in the Club and Alumni Association. Plans events to welcome new alumni to the Greater Boston area. Collaborates with the Programming Chair to ensure that Alumni Association membership value is emphasized in planning and pricing Club events
