Kristin Sullivan graduated from the University of Michigan in 1986 with a BA in Psychology. After taking time off to raise her two sons, she went on to earn her Master’s in Counseling from Michigan State University. She is excited to support the Phoenix chapter by helping alumni stay connected and continuing her work with the scholarship committee.

Kristin has over 20 years of experience as a college counselor. She spent 12 years at Notre Dame Preparatory in Scottsdale, where she led the counseling office, and later served as the Director of Counseling for Collegewise in Singapore. Today, she works as an Independent Educational Counselor, guiding students across the U.S. and internationally in finding the right-fit college.

Having lived in multiple U.S. cities as well as in Europe and Asia, Kristin has a broad perspective on education and culture. She and her husband Peter have now returned permanently to Arizona, where one of their sons and his wife reside. Kristin loves to explore new places—she has visited over 30 countries, but also treasures time with family and friends. Her passions include cooking, tackling (if not always conquering) the New York Times crossword puzzle, creating mosaic art, and doting on her Portuguese water dog.

My Why

“As a first-generation college student paying my own way, I was thrilled to receive the Alumni Scholarship—it truly made a difference in my life. Michigan was where I discovered who I was, and it ignited a curiosity that shaped my future. Through outreach programs and research opportunities, I developed a passion for working with children and making my community a better place.

The University of Michigan opened my eyes to the world in the best way possible. It gave me the confidence to pursue my goals, the foundation for my career in counseling, and a lifelong connection to a community I am proud to serve.”
