From celebrities to chiefs of state—Wallace interrogated them all. Before “60 Minutes,” he did “Night Beat,” which became “The Mike Wallace Interview.” Nixon noticed and tapped him as press secretary. Wallace turned Nixon down—and went on to earn 21 Emmys during his career. His U-M legacy lives on in the Knight-Wallace Fellowship program for journalists.
