Mary Frances Berry

Berry was the first black woman to serve as provost at the University of Maryland and also served as University of Colorado chancellor and later as a University of Pennsylvania professor. She dealt with issues including voter suppression, police practices, and conditions on Indian reservations as the chair of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
