Bob Ufer, ’43, came to U-M intending to play football, but found his athletic calling on the track. Among his accomplishments, Ufer set a world record in 1942 with his indoor 440-yard-dash time of 48.1 seconds. The record stood for five years. After graduating, Ufer entered the world of radio and never looked back. He served as the voice of U-M football for 37 years until passing away due to cancer in October 1981.
