Alexa Canady, ’71, MD’75

Canady was the first female and first African-American neurosurgeon in the U.S. After practicing at other hospitals, she became chief of neurosurgery at Children’s Hospital in Michigan. She was inducted into the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame, elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Medical Society, and received the American Medical Women’s Association President’s Award.
