It has been just more than a month since I came home to help lead the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan, and I have been so energized to be back on campus regularly.
The Alumni Association has such a rich history. The organization was officially formed 125 years ago when six different alumni groups at U-M decided to come together and create one Alumni Association. In the past 125 years, the organization has been an independent voice for alums. We have also been on the cutting edge of engagement including being among the first to have a travel program in the 1960s, purchasing Camp Michigiania in beautiful Northern Michigan, helping foster our extensive network of clubs and affiliates, and so much more.
Our 125th birthday is a big one. We want to recognize this great milestone, take stock of where we’ve been, plot a path for the future, and try things that are fresh and bold.
Recently, I spent time with President Santa J. Ono to talk about ways we can collaborate and better serve all alumni. I have also enjoyed football Saturdays, mingling with alums and hearing directly from them at tailgates.
We have ideas and initiatives, but we also want to hear from you. Do you want more focus on your professional career? Take personal wellness to new heights with running groups, cooking classes, family-oriented events, money management webinars, or a dating app? All ideas are welcome.
We certainly want to hear from members, but we also want to hear from folks who have not been engaged with us in the past. Give us a shot, and tell us what you think.
