HENRY W. BLOCH, ’44, HLLD’05, served as a B-17 bomber navigator on 32 missions over Germany during World War II. After founding United Business Co. in 1946 with Leon, his older brother, Henry and his younger brother, Richard, pivoted the bookkeeping firm to tax preparation in 1955 — creating H&R Block. (They changed the “h” to a “k” in their last name, thinking it would make pronunciation and spelling easier.)
