Michigan’s parental mortality rate is higher than the national average. For deaths related to overdoses, homicides, suicides, and other substance-related causes, children are at greater risk of adverse health outcomes and early mortality. To address this, a U-M research team examined the state’s landscape of stigmatized deaths with the goal of expanding bereavement services for children.
